The 52nd edition was characterized with a huge success in innovation and a new record of orders and exhibitors. An increase of 3% in exhibitors compared to 2015 going up to 2 381 companies. For business, $ 150 billion of orders were done during the Paris Air Show 2017, increase of 13% than the previous edition, 897 orders and purchasing commitments for a catalogue value of 115 billion USD, for a total of 934 commercial aircraft. Boeing bested Airbus in a red-hot race for new business ending the show with a $ 70 Billion of new commercial aircraft orders to $ 40 Billion for Airbus. ATR got 5 orders whose 2 with Chinese airlines and sold 13 ATR 42-600 for regional lines. Bombardier launched the 60 Q400 and won a big contract with an Indian Airline for $ 1.7 billion. Leonardo got € 200 Billion for a mixt of AW139, AW169, AW189, AW119Kx, AW109 Trekker & AW139 CFM International, logged record order, 1 658 LEAP and CFM56 engines, as well as traditional long-term service agreements, at a value of more than $ 27.3 billion. On the space market, Ariane Group got orders during the show mainly from telecom operators around the world and conduct deals with Indian Space industry. The show was also in the sky, with some stars Dassault Rafale, Falcon 8x, Lockheed Martin F35, Airbus A400M, NH90TTH Caiman, A380, A350, Embraer KC390, Boeing 737 Max incredible performance under the admiring glance of the French president Emmanuel Macron.
This year, Innovation was the buzzword, with a specific hall, the Paris Air Lab, where hundreds of startups gathered to present their innovations. Important to notice Some innovation trends. Big data, from fleet monitoring down to production line optimization. Multiple application, Quality improvement, design optimization though field return, cost saving. Such applications are also part of the strategy of main actors, such as Thales and airbus. Production method, additive manufacturing, 3D printing technology, and robotization, from production of large piece, down to finishing, coating, and stamping. Additive manufacturing, prior an innovation, appeared at the Air show a mature technology, and reliable substitute to subtractive machining methods. Virtual reality, invading the public market, find promising application for gaining a competitive advantage in product engineering process and it also provides a great solution for immersive training, aircraft demonstration and design & quality control.
