DECARBONAZATION BY OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY
19
March

What solution can we use to reduce our countries’ carbon footprint? The miracle solution is not found overnight, but the use of wind seems to seduce the whole world. Offshore wind turbines seem to be an interesting solution for a decarbonisation project thanks to the use of an inexhaustible resource, the wind, and an almost zero environmental impact.

There are currently two types of wind turbines:

  • – Fixed wind turbines which are installed on the seabed.
  • – Floating wind turbines are placed on large structures that allow them to be positioned where there is potentially not much sea bed.

Positive impact:

  • – Creation of a real ecosystem on the column of the wind turbine
  • – This creates an artificial reef and is therefore beneficial to marine life

Negative impacts:

  • – Risk to migratory birds if a wind farm is in their path
  • – Risk to navigation if a new wind farm is signalled too late
