For a few years, the New Space has seen the arrival of more and more start-ups offering innovative solutions and the increase of satellite launches. An operation that has become possible due to the reduction of the costs of access to space.
Space accessibility:
Access to space is no longer unthinkable for a startup. In the last few years, more and more startups are launching their own satellites. A maneuver that has become commonplace with the advent of companies offering space flights at reasonable prices, such as SpaceX of Elon Musk. The historical players in the field are trying to structure themselves in such a way as to be able to develop opportunities for young companies, for whom the stakes are high: start-ups will not be able to develop their services without data. So, the launch of satellites is essential for their activities.
French start up Unseenlabs entrusts the launch of its fourth satellite to Arianespace: the union of European space?
After the first two launches by the American Rocket Lab, the Brittany-based New Space nugget will launch its next satellite, BRO-4, with an Arianespace Vega launcher on August 17. It plans a constellation of 20 to 25 maritime surveillance satellites by 2025.
The company, which is developing a solution for intercepting radio frequency signals from nano-satellites for ship surveillance, successfully raised €20 million last May. This represents one of the largest fundraising events in the European space sector.
Towards a French leadership:
Some 20 French start-ups working in the space sector announced on May 7, 2021 their alliance with the aim of positioning the national « New Space » sector as a world leader.
The Alliance’s mission is to strengthen the positioning of the industry’s players by improving their visibility, increasing investment, promoting co-development and seizing international business opportunities.
The first historical President of the Alliance is Stanislas Maximin, founder and CEO of Venture Orbital Systems, the most advanced company in France in the development of micro-launchers.
