Despite a very special year, in 2020 the Airbus production has continued to grow. This was due in particular to new projects and successful contract.
At the beginning of 2021, Airbus is multiplying orders. Despite the pandemic, the European company has managed to avoid being drastically impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, particularly in comparison with its direct competitors.
A400M :
Airbus has limited breakage, they delivered 566 commercials aircraft in 2020, and like every year, the company stepped up its efforts in December. As a result, the European aircraft manufacturer estimates that its deliveries were down 34% compared to 2019 (863 deliveries), a relatively impressive score considering the situation of airlines.
Airbus will also deliver 82 wide-body aircraft this year, and this range is clearly the most affected by the crisis. In addition, Airbus will successfully deploy 60 long-haul aircraft to airlines at the height of the crisis.
Belgium :
With 10 Airbus aircraft delivered in 2020, the head of military aircraft at Airbus Defence and Space tells us that with the delivery of this aircraft, all customers will now be equipped with the A400M. Despite the challenges imposed by Covid-19, his team plans to complete the delivery of the 10 aircrafts. A transport aircraft destined for the high-end market, the Griffin weighing over 24 tons was recently transported between Djibouti and Orleans.
Space :
Airbus has signed a contract with Intelsat to build two OneSat satellites operating in multiple frequency bands for the next-generation network defined by Intelsat’s software. The contract was signed on December 31, 2020. The satellites will be based on Airbus’ OneSat product range, the latest generation of fully flexible and reconfigurable satellites in orbit.
Airbus will provide a solution including satellite design and manufacturing. Intelsat says the satellites defined by the Airbus software will offer its customers powerful performances in multiple geographic regions. The agreement also marks the beginning of a radical evolution for Intelsat’s network.
