Additive manufacturing has globally made a tremendous revolution, in Industry. Using additive manufacturing, particularly in advanced applications such as aerospace and automotive, not only increases components production efficiency, but also creating new and innovative components that were not easy to make.

In 2019, we witnessed an acceleration of integrating additive manufacturing. This technique facilitates new attractive, and interesting applications for manufacturers in aerospace, energy and plastics industries. According to the study conducted by SmarTech in 2019, French market is in 4th position worldwide in this field, with a turnover of 489 million euros, which undoubtedly reflects its advantages in favor of industry (automotive, aerospace, armaments …).
As a matter of fact, the giant American aircraft « Boeing » integrates more than 300 parts using additive manufacturing techniques, especially for its latest program, the long-haul Boeing 777X.
In the Defense field, the British group BAE Systems recently integrated 3D printing for cockpit radio protection. The advantage of integrating additive manufacturing is to further reduce the group’s expenses in its military business.
Pros of this additive manufacturing?
Productivity gains noticed. Thanks to the reduction in mass, which now becomes easy and accessible in parameterization. Added to this is the ability to generate very complex shapes without any loss of materials. Industrial companies will no longer need to stock, since everything is done « just in time ».
Therefore, FORMNEXT takes place every year at Messe Frankfurt to present all the innovations of the year : innovations in machines, materials, software or even new applications. This annual 3D printing event, which is attended by a wide range of companies, from small start-ups to large industrial groups, will be held virtually this year, from 10 to 13 November 2020.
