Nowadays, demand for gas is constantly increasing worldwide. According to some forecasts, gas could even become the No. 2 energy by 2040, ahead of coal but below oil. Thus, the gas market represents many business opportunities.

Whatever the scenarios for the future are forecasting, fossil fuels will still dominate the global energy market by 2040, and gas will have an important share within it. As power generation, manufacturing, buildings heating and transportation are heavily dependent on gas, this energy will be the fastest growing fossil fuel by 2030.

Gas reserves are still well filled, with massive reserves in Russia, North America and the Middle East and Arabic Peninsula. In order to feed the world’s demand for natural gas, the gas needs to be transported from where it is produced to where it is going to be consumed. But transporting gas is not that easy. Thus, LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) was developed and is currently the best solution for the transport of gas. LNG is a clear, color-less and non-toxic liquid, 600 times smaller than natural gas.

LNG market demand was over 350 million tons in 2019 and is expected to grow continuously by 6% between 2020 and 2027. Of course, gas is a very regulated market with high risks and LNG production and transportation requires a high level of technology as well as a complex pipelines and boats network.

Lot of stakeholders involved in the gas market: 

The gas & LNG market involves a lot of different stakeholders: the governments, the producing and transport companies as well as all the private actors manufacturing the equipment needed within this industry.

Thus, as the gas market is going to grow further in the coming decades, all these stakeholders could benefit from this development. Gas & LNG is also a very dynamic R&D market, as private companies are continuously developing new equipment. Furthermore, the global LNG industry is characterized by an intense competition between major actors such as Total, Chevron, Gazprom, Shell and others.
